Why organic paper?
While it's true that when we think organic it often
applies to food, the term organic refers to a cultivation method
that can be applied to any agricultural product. Cotton is a
fiber that produces beautiful paper, but unfortunately
conventional cotton production inflicts a heavy environmental
toll. (See Cotton Facts)
In addition, the pulp and paper industry is a huge culprit in
the destruction of our forests and fragile ecosystems. (See Paper
Facts). When faced with these facts, paper made from organic
cotton offers an environmentally sound alternative by not only
reducing the destruction of our forests, but by promoting
healthy agricultural practices.
What is Processed Chlorine
Free?
Processed chlorine free refers to paper in which the
recycled content is unbleached or bleached without chlorine or
chlorine derivatives. Chlorine bleaching produces dioxins and other
toxins and pollutants, which have been associated with adverse
affects on the immune and reproductive systems of humans and
wildlife. See
Paper Terminology.
What is Post Consumer
Waste?
This is paper that has been used by the consumer and returned
through a recycling program, thus keeping it out of a landfill.
See Paper Terminology.
Recycled vs. Alternative Fiber (Cotton, Hemp)
Paper. Which is better?
This debate is ongoing, and there are valid arguments on
both sides. We've taken the approach that either one is a vast
improvement compared to paper made from virgin tree fiber, and
our products include both recycled and alternative
fibers. Jim Motavalli, editor of E/The
Environmental Magazine, has written a great
article on the pros and cons of both options.
How is the paper in your cards
bleached?
Our organic cotton paper is totally chlorine free. Our other
papers are processed chlorine free.
Do you use
100% vegetable based
inks?
Yes! We never print using conventional inks that require
harmful solvents.
Is your
gift wrap recyclable?
Yes! Many recycling centers don't allow gift wrap to be recycled
because conventional wrapping paper is often printed with
metallic inks and covered with glossy coatings. Our Hemp Wrap is
printed on uncoated paper with 100% vegetable ink.
Where are your cards
and gift wrap printed?
All of our cards and gift wrap are printed locally here in New Hampshire.
Where does your paper come
from?
All of our papers and packaging are made here in the
U.S. The only exception is the
organic hemp twine that we use to bind
our organic cards, which comes from Europe. (It's still illegal
to grow industrial hemp in the U.S.)
Why do you wrap your cards
and gift wrap individually?
In order to protect the beauty of our organic cards and gift
wrap, they are
individually packaged in 100% biodegradable cellophane sleeves.
Unlike the man-made polymers in plastics, which are largely
derived from petroleum, cellophane is a natural polymer made
from cellulose. When buried, uncoated cellulose film is
generally found to degrade within 10 to 30 days.

artists for your designs?
